The rain poured over Ivory, soaking her white coat. Today was one of the days that she wondered greatly about the wereabouts of her parents. The thunder and lightning were the only things showing her reality as she thought about them. She remembered exactly the day she left. From that point on, she did not "miss" them, but more wondered if they missed her, or if they looked for her, or thought about her in any way. Neither of them had ever shown any compassion towards anything but the leaders of the Dark alliance.
The white mare came to an abrupt stop at the edge of the island and looked out at the sea from the clifftop. Her glorious mane and tail blew out behind her as she was hit with the ocean breeze.
Ivory jumped at the sound of footsteps behind her, but turned to see that there was no being where she thought one would be. She heard a whisper on the wind that told her to visit The Caves, a system of tombs. Her instincts told her to ignore the voices of the dead that fluttered on the frail breeze, but her strong mind overpowered her instincts. She turned and took off at a gallop towards the mountains in which the mouth of The Caves existed.
Now, as she ran, the thunder became louder, and the lightning more prominent against the blackened sky. Her hoofbeats kept time with the rythm of the thunder and the chattering of the rain against the rocks, making the scene a song.
Ivory lengthened her stride as The Caves entrance came into her veiw. She slid to a stop and reared at the mouth of the cave, and entered at a cautious walk. The voices guided her through the darkness, towards a plaque under a column of bright light that couldnt have come from outside. Ivory saw the names of her parents on the stone tablet.
"They're dead." She spoke to herself, wondering how it happened.
Ivory had always thought of herself on a stable platform between the frailties of life and the simple death, but now she doubted her theory. The truth about her family is now a mystery, and the only question is whether she will ever find out how her parents died, or why, and by who's hand.
